Dungeons and Dragons

I preordered. I'm going to be starting a campaign with my co-workers. It's been years since I played, so I'm really excited about it. I might roll the new Warlord class. Or maybe a Ranger.
Yeah I'm getting more and more excited. I'll be interested to hear your thoughts on the game. The warlord class intrigues me, I'm looking forward to reading about it a bit more. The new races are pretty interesting too, the Dragonborn and Teiflings sound pretty weird, but potentialy interesting, and I'm curious to read about the changes now that they've broken up elves a bit into basically two types.
First of all if an idea is good and it makes things more fun, I don't really care where it comes from, and second, a table top role playing game with good friends and a good game master will never really be much like an MMO, unless that's the way the group wants it.

This is very, very true. In fact, I'd go so far as to say that with a good set of friends and a good game master, the rule set hardly matters. I only have a vague idea of what 4.0 is going to be like (it's been a while since we played around with d20), but if it really is taking a page from the success of some MMOs, if it's making for a more streamlined product, it'll be better for it. As people's expectations evolve, the rules need to adjust. Can you imagine picking up "Advanced" D&D and slugging through thousands of points of experience just to advance? Different time, different rules.
I think that's a pretty good assessment. It would be tough to go back to 2nd edition with all of it's tables and whatnot. From what little I've seen, it does look like they've reallys streamlined things and added mechanics that should make things easier, less complicated, but still very fun and capable of handling a wide variety of situations without too much modification. I'm pretty excited!
[this is good]
