What's your favorite drink or cocktail? What's in it?

Well my standard drink is the Gin & Tonic. I really love gin, a lot. And tonic water and lime can be quite refreshing, so a well made gin and tonic (plenty of ice, about 2/3rds gin, 1/3rd tonic and a decent sized slice of lime) is pretty much something I'll enjoy almost any time. It's also common enough that there is never any kind of hassle with a bartender when ordering it.
I also enjoy Martini's (usually Gin, but occasionally Vodka, always dirty with plenty of olives) fairly frequnetly.
Another favorite is the Moscow Mule, which any history-minded bartender should know how to make, but few seem to. Luckily it's pretty simple so it's not too much trouble to explain it or to just order it via the ingredients rather than the name. It's the drink that made Vodka popular in the US back in the 50's. It's generally made with Vodka, Ginger Ale and a twist of lime. If you want it to be as authentic as possible, you should use ginger beer rather than ale (it's a bit spicier, and I think makes a better drink), add a cucumber peel and use a full ounce of lime juice, and if you really want to be authentic, serve it in a copper cup.
A synopsis of the story of the drink can be found here.
Right up there with Gin for me is Scotch, but a good Scotch isn't really something to be mixed with other things as a rule (though water and soda are a pretty frequent companion and can help bring out the bouquet and flavor in the right proportion), so I'm not sure if it really falls into the right category for thie question. I generally just take mine on the rocks, or sometimes neat
I also have some seasonal favorites, I just made a bunch of Sangria the other
day, which is nice and perfect for the hot summer days we've been experiencing lately. In winter I enjoy making mulled wine, or hot apple cider which can be very nice with some rum or whisky in it. Back in college (during the commune days) we also used to occasionally get bottles of Barenjager, which is a very nice Honey Liqueur and mix it with a cup of tea rather than adding actual honey or sugar, it was another delicious hot drink and works very well in the winter.I'm sure I could go on for a long time about this but those are some of my favorites, and some of the more interesting things I like to drink on occasion.
